AERO uses producers to create alternate format materials such as Braille, large print, e-text, or daisy digital audio for the student if the requested books are not available. The production of some material takes time so it is imperative that orders be submitted as early as possible. Schools must provide one regular print copy for large print, e-text, audio and Braille transcriptions. Texts provided for large print, Braille and e-text will not be returned. Copies for audio transcriptions are generally returned.
Atlases are available in large print and e-text on the catalogue.
Bibles in large print can be ordered through The Canadian Bible Society 1-800-465-2425. Bibles are free to AERO registrants. Many bibles are also available for download free at www.gutenberg.org.
Some bibles are also available in large print and e-text in the catalogue.
Electronic text (e-text), PDF, Kurzweil or Word Formats
It is the responsibility of the advisor to know the preferred format such as PDF, Kurzweil or Word file resources and skill sets required before ordering e-text. Please discuss with technical resource personnel at the school before ordering.
Cancopy rules apply to e-text textbooks as they do to any other alternate format books available at AERO.
For titles that have been downloaded, the advisor agrees to delete the files on the school storage site and to delete the title under the student’s holdings.
For physical copies of e-text material, the advisor must return them to AERO at the end of the school year.
The Gutenberg website has free e-text books that you can download.
This site includes the following: Alice in Wonderland, the Bible, Shakespeare and reference material such as Roget’s Thesaurus.
To access please visit http://www.gutenberg.org.
AERO provides DAISY digital audio for audio users. DAISY is a standard that allows user to navigate through the text. A DAISY playback machine or software is required. We recommend an Internet search engine for more information about DAISY digital audio or e-text. Software is available at http://www.daisy.org/projects/amis.
